Job Search Guide

Step 1

Recognizing your strengths and interests through exercises

Tip

Your CLE has computers available for consulting labour market information. Most municipal libraries also offer this type of service.

Do the following four exercises. They will help you gain a better understanding of yourself and the job offers that match your expectations, interests and skills.

Print or jot down the results of the first three exercises, as they will be useful when you do Exercise 4.

  1. Choose your field
To determine the type of job that suits you, find out what occupational fields interest you.
  2. Learn to recognize your strengths
Are you self-sufficient, reliable, flexible? Find out the personal skills that best define you.
  3. Determine your profile
Realistic, investigative, artistic, social, enterprising or conventional. This exercise will reveal your profile.
  4. Assess your job situation
Specify the type of work you are seeking, which best matches your experience and skills.
In this exercise, you must use the results of the three preceding exercises.
