Plan Nord is a sustainable development initiative encompassing projects in the energy, mining, forestry, bio-food, tourism and transportation sectors, as well as wildlife development, environmental protection and biodiversity conservation. It favours development for the benefit of the communities directly concerned and Québec as a whole, in a spirit of respect for cultures and identities.
Plan Nord covers all of Québec north of the 49th parallel, including territories north of the St. Lawrence River and the Gulf of St. Lawrence, except for Île d’Anticosti. It thus comprises the Nord-du-Québec region, most of the Côte-Nord region and the northern part of the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region.
