Workforce and Sectors of Activity

Emploi-Québec supports 30 sectoral workforce committees composed of representatives of employer associations, businesses, trade unions and labour associations that are in tune with the state and problems of their respective industries or sectors of activity.

The committees also include representatives of government departments and agencies involved in the specific sector.

The committees’ main responsibilities consist in defining the needs in their specific sectors, recommending means for stabilizing employment and reducing unemployment, and developing lifelong learning.

The sectoral workforce committees target various sectors of economic activity. The committees are recognized by the Commission des partenaires du marché du travail based on the following criteria:

  • determination of the sector in which a committee operates;
  • representative membership;
  • an active partnership within the given sector;
  • willingness of partners to build consensus;
  • contribution of members to the functioning of the sectoral workforce committee.
