Assistance for Persons with Disabilities

Persons with disabilities and the labour market

To facilitate the hiring and job retention of persons with disabilities, Emploi-Québec offers a variety of tools to help you:

  • identify your career goals;
  • access information on the labour market;
  • take part in training activities;
  • seek and get employment.

Your local employment centre can provide you with:

Service tailored to your needs

  • We will ask a counsellor at a recognized specialized manpower service in your region to support you in your efforts to enter the labour market.
  • We can provide funding to adapt the material and equipment you need to participate in a training activity.

Help in finding work

To help you find a job, we can:

  • offer your employer a wage subsidy to minimize any effect your disability may have on your work performance;
  • provide your employer with financial assistance to adapt your workstation and office equipment and make your workplace accessible;
  • provide the services of a support person to facilitate your dealings with a potential employer and advise the employer about any special support you may need.

For you to be eligible for this assistance, your impairment must cause a significant and persistent disability that makes you liable to encounter barriers in performing everyday activities.

Are you able to hold a job?

The Contrat d’intégration au travail (employment integration contract, CIT) (PDF, 51 KB) measure facilitates the hiring and retention of persons with disabilities in normal work settings.

An employer who can provide you with the necessary framework and help follow up on your file may be eligible to receive a subsidy to address your special needs.

The job offered to you must be a vacant or newly created temporary or permanent position. You must work between 12 and 40 hours a week, depending on your potential and the employer’s needs.

Are you experiencing significant problems adapting to a standard workplace?

The Programme de subventions aux entreprises adaptées (PDF, 901 KB) allows businesses recognized by Emploi-Québec to offer employment to persons with disabilities for whom standard workplaces are not accessible. The program can help you find a job that matches your needs, including basic training and a suitable work environment. Such jobs generally do not require a diploma, special qualification or even relevant experience.

Support is granted directly to the adapted business in the form of a wage subsidy. The duration of the subsidy varies on a case-by-case basis and can even be long-term. Emploi-Québec’s overall contribution allows adapted businesses to offer persons with disabilities gainful employment and adapt the workplace to meet these employees’ needs.
